General Movements Assessment

Are you worried about your baby’s motor development?

Many parents are worried when they notice that their baby is not developing in the same way as other children. Maybe your baby was born prematurely, had a low weight when he came into the world, suffered birth trauma, had neurological or respiratory complications in the first days of life, or shows delays or worrying signs in motor development. These signs may indicate early neurological problems, including cerebral palsy.

GMA Assessment Is The Solution For Your Peace of Mind

The General Movements Assessment (GMA), developed by Professor Heinz Prechtl, is a simple, non-invasive test through which our specialists can detect these neurological difficulties early. Thus, you will have the essential information to intervene quickly and effectively, maximizing the chances of a healthy development for your child.

Who do we recommend the GMA Assessment to?

This evaluation is especially recommended if your baby:

  • He was born prematurely;
  • She had a low birth weight;
  • Had neurological or respiratory complications after childbirth;
  • Shows delays or worrying signs in motor development
  • Shows asymmetries in movements or postures;
  • Has abnormal muscle tone (too stiff or too soft);
  • Manifests tremors or involuntary movements;
  • Does not reach age-appropriate motor milestones;
  • Has coordination difficulties;
  • Presents persistent primitive reflexes;
  • She suffered trauma at birth;
  • Has a family history of neurological conditions;
  • Shows excessive irritability or lethargy.

How does the GMA Assessment at Neuroinsight work?

The evaluation involves recording a short video of the baby, when he is awake, calm and lying on his back. This recording, which takes only a few minutes, is analyzed by our certified experts in the Prechtl method. For your convenience, you can shoot right at home, following our clear instructions.

Recommended stages of the assessment:

  • Phase of Early Fetal and Postnatal Movements: from birth to 6-9 weeks.
  • Agitated movement phase: between 12 and 20 weeks.

The GMA assessment provides accurate information on the risk of neurological disorders, and the earlier it is performed, the greater the chances of an effective recovery.
